Our Commitment to Corporate Citizenship
Can a commercial entity be committed to profitability and corporate citizenship at the same time? Are its shareholders and employees not entitled to expect that all efforts and resources be focused on the continued viability of their own enterprise? This and similar questions assume a contradiction between business and society which, in our opinion, does not exist. On the contrary - WestLB AG and its employees are very much a part of society. This is why we are committed to responsible corporate governance and control, aimed at adding value on a sustained basis. We believe that pro-active patronage, promotion and sponsorship of worthwhile endeavours can make an important contribution to the future viability of our society.
WestLB’s patronage, promotion and sponsorship are governed by five guidelines which specify the eligibility of projects to be funded:

Together with WestLB-Stiftung Zukunft NRW, the WestLB Foundation, we seek to live up to our responsibility. Responsibility comes from the same root as the word “response” or answer. The new answers promised by WestLB go beyond the world of banking and extend to all areas where our society is challenged to secure its future viability.
